Section 3. The chairman may appoint whomever he wishes as his assistants, and these aides may come from outside council. Additionally, Student Council Officers and Senators are governed by the following Constitution and By-Laws. Failure to do so may result in the loss of the charter. It shall act as a mediator between the faculty, administration, and students. Section 1. The present school principal should seek a recommendation from the previous school principal or chapter adviser pursuant to the candidate’s selection. The Faculty Council, in compliance with the rules and regulations of the National Junior Honor Society, shall determine the procedure for dismissal. In such cases, a chapter can be shared as long as all other constitutional requirements can be met. Many students, including students of military parents, are required to move with parents or guardians that have transferred in their work. Bylaws do not need the approval of NASSP but must be consistent with this Constitution. Section 5. The Student Leadership Advisory Committee shall consist of 14 members appointed by the Board of Directors of NASSP, as follows: Section 4. With the Public Relations Director, he is responsible for the creation of a monthly council events calendar to be posted to keep the school informed. The Public Relations Director is responsible for heading up members of council in production of a monthly council newsletter to be distributed to the student body. The state affiliate shall not serve as an appeal board for local chapter nonselection or dismissal cases. Transfer members must meet the new chapter’s standards within one semester in order to retain membership. Section 2. A representative cannot miss two meetings in a row or three all year, unless excused by the President. Note 2. A two-thirds majority is needed to override the veto. At any time, the President, with the consent of two-thirds of the council, may create a committee. The purpose of this organization shall be to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, to develop character, and to encourage good citizenship in the students of secondary schools. Section 3. The Student Representative Council (SRC) is an independent, studentrun organisation that represents the opinions, concerns, and demands of the student body through democratically elected representatives. At least one committee member shall be a Student Council member. The Public Relations Director is not a voting member of council and may not introduce motions. shall be designated in the chapter bylaws. Section 1. Section 4. Unexcused absences will necessitate unseating. The chapter adviser shall be an ex officio, nonvoting, sixth member of the Faculty Council and shall facilitate all meetings of the council. Section 1. Section 4. In all cases of pending dismissal, a member shall have a right to a hearing before the Faculty Council. Advisers can get additional information and guidance on the NJHS Constitution by reviewing the NJHS Handbook. Any student may serve on these committees.
Prior to notification of any candidates, the chapter adviser shall review with the principal the results of the Faculty Council’s deliberations. Section 1. The Secretary also monitors the activities of the Public Relations Director and the Webmaster. Duly chartered local chapters shall conform to this Constitution as set forth by the NASSP Board of Directors.
“Congress” means the SRC Congress established in terms of Chapter 2 of this constitution. A middle level unit in the same building with a high school unit will be appropriate cause for two separate chapters (one for the National Junior Honor Society and one for the National Honor Society). A council member may be considered for dismissal for violations of the student handbook. At the end of the year he shall submit a copy of the records to the council. Section 3. To coordinate all areas of student life at St. Thomas High School through student government, we, the student body, do hereby establish this constitution. Each active or honorary member in good standing with the chapter shall be entitled to wear this emblem.
