Set the R trigger as the jump button. Short hops are just harder due to the 3-frame jumpsquat. so what are the odds that this is actually a bug and it's not a .85x multiplier on aerials as much as the 1.2x multiplier not being applied to them for whatever reason? A short hop, or low jump in Super Smash Bros. 4, is the act of inputting a jump command and letting go of the appropriate button or control stick during a character's jump squat.

I only have the joy cons and find short hopping really difficult. Welcome! The main issue is the auto-short hop aerial mechanic they added to try and offset this strict, melee like short hop timing. Pro Controller: (R Trigger) Jump + (B) Jump. I’m having a little trouble as well. I imagine it's the jumpsquat change but I'm having to just do the X + A auto aerial shorthop, which works for some characters but doesn't for others depending on move lag. Ok guys. When I first started I constantly messed up my short hops but now I'm able to get it pretty consistently. It's a 2% damage buff compared to teams/ffa, but in the context of 1v1s it's still a damage reduction, right? Welcome to Reddit's finest Smash Bros community! Even worse, if you try to practice a frame-perfect input, you get random nairs come out instead.
Why not just short hop by tapping jump really fast? If this is all you can do you become extremely predictable and easy to punish. I can only do it if I really focus and then only 20% of the time. A couple friends of mine recommended this technique: Take your thumb, and flick it downward off the bottom of the X button I'm already stuck in my ways of short hopping by just hitting the button as fast as I can, but I'm definitely less consistent on nimble characters like Fox. Marth's Nair for example. But if you do a proper short hop and delay the Nair to just before landing, you can get the Nair to come out much lower, allowing you to hit smaller characters easier or ones that like to crouch low in their sprint. r/smashbros: Welcome to Reddit's finest Smash Bros community! Welcome to Reddit's finest Smash Bros community! Problem is, I think the 1.2x global damage buff was supposed to speed up the game in order to: offset the reduction in pace created by balloon momentum. Practice, a LOT! This can be done by pressing the jump and standard attack button (A on a Gamecube controller) at the same time (X+A or Y+A). 4 Years worth of Melee Fox's 3 frame short hop window makes it extremely easy in Ultimate when you have a 9 frame buffer. Could be a fun little risk vs reward deal with characters with short double jump heights. It took them 4 games for them to recognize tilt attacks. Often, when trying to time a perfect full hop aerial (say off a downthrow) you'll just activate the new, unavoidable mechanic and short hop aerial instead. By using our Services or clicking I agree, you agree to our use of cookies. This post brought to you by 1 million GSP. Ultimate, simply press the jump and attack buttons simultaneously. I'm a bumper jumper (I use L to jump normally), so to shorthop (if I don't want to do an instant aerial) I use L and Y. Controller choice should only matter for personal preference, not game mechanics. Looks like you're using new Reddit on an old browser. Haha but really though.
This explains why I saw a fresh Marth non-tipper fair do 8.5% (8 * 1.05 * 1.2 * 0.85 = 8.568). There are a couple different methods of short hopping, and I was just wondering if the average smash player uses 2 buttons or taps on jump, Someone told me to not focus on pressing Y quickly, but to focus on letting go of Y quickly. I think it's moreso that short hops have stricter timing in this game in large part due to the 3 frame jumpsquats. The auto short hop is great, but it would be so nice to be able to reliably do short hop specials as well. Aw shit you’re right. Close.
Punished for buffering, punished for trying to be frame perfect, and so now, the only option is to delay all your aerials, to avoid this clunky mechanic.
Press J to jump to the feed. Pac-Man.
Though there are instances where I’ll use the jump + attack macro situationally, like if I need an instant rising aerial out of shield or whatnot. Yeah I'm not a fan of being forced to use X + A because its not as effective/reliable in hitting smaller characters.
If using shoulder or triggers to jump on joy cons I'm not sure it is even possible to do consistently. Link dair being 19f of landing lag). But if you do a proper short hop and delay the Nair to just before landing, you can get the Nair to come out much lower, allowing you to hit smaller characters easier or ones that like to crouch low in their sprint.
This subreddit is for discussing Super Smash Bros.
I mean, the controller choice should not have such a huge impact on such a basic move. I played a lot of both melee and smash 4 so I'm okay with jumping on either X or L on a gamecube controller but having it on L is just a little more relaxing on my hands. Not everyone wants to relearn muscle memory. Sleep helps consolidate memory so if you do quality practicing right before bed (even if it's not that much), you'll be better the next day when you wake up. Ultimate.
Ultimate … Notice how--while the short hop deals only 12.8%--both the full hop and float clock in at the same amount of damage: 15.1%!
Some can’t even connect when grounded otherwise.
Yes, the 3 frame window is tough but do-able for the most part, but with how fast all characters now launch themselves up for a full hop, it feels really frustrating when you miss one this time around. I’ve casually played from Melee onwards. This is probably because of the much lower landing lag and quicker jumpsquat, the devs likely thought that SH aerials were too good compared to ground attacks, it also keeps aerials good at edgeguarding. I wonder if all these "knobs" will used to fine tune the game if/when they decide to patch it for balance and bugs. The problem here is that I can't consistently short hop in Ultimate using L. Sometimes it's a full hop sometimes I stay grounded. And that’s how to short hop in Super Smash Bros. This is something I've seen many players in the community clamoring about nerfing. I 100% expected to be able to do this l when i heard button layouts were customizable. Mixes up the game a bit. If you press X and R at the same time, you can short Hop freely.
Jump+a means you can’t empty short hop and you can only do … Even the sideways joycon has four face buttons on the right side. We need this.
